I know this band has been out for awhile, but I just recently started listening to them. First of all, I'll say that their style is completely unique in that its purpose seems to be to throw you off, so it's not for everyone. The singer also takes a bit of getting used to.
I was very disappointed in the album that came out last year, The Bedlam Goliath, but the new album that just came out is amazing! It's being referred to by some as their "acoustic album", but it's not really acoustic in the sense that it's just played on acoustic guitars, but the music is much more laid back and accessible than their previous efforts. At first I thought this would be compromising to their style, but it fits really well with them, I must say. So if you're looking for a new band to check out, and you want to get into them, I'd suggest this new album to start with. It's called Octahedron.
Any other thoughts on this awesome band, post them here.

I've lost touch with them since that album last year. Your description of the new one sounds amazing, though. I'll need to check that out.

De-loused in the comatorium, their first piece, was epically amazing. Glad to know someone else has heard them.

Yeah, that was amazing! My favorite song by them is Viscera Eyes.

Yep, fan here! Not like their number 1 fan as I count bands like Seether & Nonpoint in that spot, but they are very good!

I love the Volta! I think they're the modern age Pink Floyd. De-loused in the comatorium, and Francis the Mute are definitely my favorite albums, but they have an awesome style. Not too many bands have 10 minute noise/jam sessions in the middle of their songs nowadays.

I absolutely, positively, love the Mars Volta. Their style is amazing. Their improv onstage is just great, and their experimental style is so fucking great!
I am in love with the Mars Volta, 100%

I recently started listening to this band. They have the power to be listened to for whole albums without stopping. Their experiments are just awesome. Guess Frances the mute is my favoritie. Hard to choose a favorite song though.
